Stakeholder relationship management

A commodities trader connected stakeholder history across three functions

A global commodities trader kept engagement history and external intelligence in separate tools across corporate affairs, media relations and legal. Genie connected meetings, stakeholders, issues and markets in one searchable record, supported by country monitoring and TSC briefing.

A change of government exposed the missing record.

Corporate Affairs at a global commodities trader managed relationships with governments, regulators, investors, civil society and the media across more than 40 countries. Engagement histories sat in personal notes, email chains and separate functional tools.

The gap became clear when a new government took office in an African market. Several senior meetings followed within days, but the wider team could not see a complete account of what had changed or what had already been discussed.

Country and issue data supported specific engagement.

TSC configured Genie around both geography and mandate. Country workspaces held local stakeholder and engagement records. Issue workspaces connected relationships to matters such as sanctions, commodity trade, export finance and carbon regulation.

Meetings could be linked to the relevant stakeholder, issue and market. A mapping exercise across eight markets added more than 200 stakeholder profiles to the shared baseline.

Weekly feeds tracked political, regulatory, geopolitical and market developments using criteria calibrated to each country. TSC then used the retained context to produce stakeholder maps and structured engagement briefs for priority relationships and events.

The record could travel across teams.

Corporate Affairs, Media Relations and Legal could work from a shared history instead of reconstructing it for each request. A colleague preparing for a meeting could see earlier engagement and the external developments around the relationship.

The shared record preserved meetings, stakeholders, issues and market context as people changed roles. Later monitoring, mapping and briefing could begin from that history rather than reconstructing it.
