The battle for America's food system

Make America Healthy Again is a movement with a federal policy agenda. It is coming for ultra-processed food, food chemicals and farm subsidies. See the commission members, regulators, scientists and industry groups fighting over how far it goes, and how they connect.

What the MAHA movement puts at stake

Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) is a turning point for America's food system. The movement now has a federal policy blueprint in the MAHA report. It targets ultra-processed foods, food chemicals and additives, and the structure of agricultural subsidies. Together, these could change how food is produced, marketed and sold across the United States.

The effects will reach food and beverage companies, agribusiness, chemical makers and retailers, and parts of the technology and pharmaceutical sectors. The fight will run through Congress, the regulators and public hearings. Much of it will happen out of sight, where industry lobbyists and public health advocates compete for influence.

The map shows the commission members, regulatory agencies, scientific bodies, congressional subcommittees and lobby groups that will decide how far the agenda goes. It ranks the key influencers by power, legitimacy, urgency and proximity. Data as of 27 June 2025.
